The artist has handed over the entirety of his £25,000 honor prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the Britain's small live music spots.

Fender was given the award on 16 October as his third album his work was declared the outstanding release of the past year.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues fulfilled in his early career.

"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, well-known musicians such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by including a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation helped venues that were facing possible closure due to challenges caused by floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Other venues received funding support in upgrading amenities and gear that helped artists and fans.

"The idea that revenue from shows in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," the star has commented.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

In recent years, the band gave their prize money to the local youth club that nurtured their band, in addition to other local music groups.

And 1994 winners the group donated their award to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the illness.

"Winning was ample," stated vocalist Heather Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our winning touched another person's life."

Last week, the MVT shared it had protected several grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in the city and the other in the city were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is supported by the arts council and supporters who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
